Bridge days: how much leave for how long a break?

What private-sector employers and employees should know
- The eves of the Ramadan Feast and the Feast of Sacrifice, and 28 October, are half-day holidays from 13:00 (Law No. 2429, Arts. 1 and 2).
- Weekly rest days and public holidays that fall within annual leave are not counted as leave (Labour Law No. 4857, Art. 56/5), so the planner only counts working days as leave.
- There is no substitute day for a holiday that falls on a weekend. In the private sector Saturday is not a statutory day off; it may be a working day under the employment contract.
- Administrative leave (bridge days) granted to the public sector does not bind private employers. An employer may grant paid leave or arrange make-up work (Art. 64); a bridge day cannot be deducted from annual leave without the employee's consent.
- Whether work is done on a public holiday is set by contract, or failing that by the employee's consent; an employee who works on a holiday is paid an extra day's wage (Arts. 44 and 47).

How many public holidays does Turkey have in 2028?
Counting eves as half days, Turkey has 15.5 days of public holidays in 2028. For a Monday–Friday workplace, 7 of them fall on working days and 8 on weekends.
When is the Ramadan Feast in 2028?
The Ramadan Feast in 2028 runs Saturday 26 February – Monday 28 February. The eve, Friday 25 February, is a half-day holiday from 13:00.
When is the Feast of Sacrifice in 2028?
The Feast of Sacrifice in 2028 runs Friday 5 May – Monday 8 May. The eve, Thursday 4 May, is a half-day holiday from 13:00.
Are bridge days holidays in the private sector?
No. Administrative leave granted before or after a holiday covers public-sector employees only. In the private sector a bridge day off depends on the employer granting paid leave, make-up work, or the employee taking annual leave.
Are public holidays deducted from annual leave?
No. National holidays, public holidays and weekly rest days that fall within annual leave are not counted as leave (Labour Law No. 4857, Art. 56/5). For leave that spans a feast, only working days are deducted.
Is the eve of a feast a half day?
Yes. The eves of the Ramadan Feast and the Feast of Sacrifice, and 28 October, are holidays from 13:00; the morning is a working morning. Taking that morning off uses half a day of annual leave.
